Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong Old Town base with clean rooms, helpful staff and a rooftop pool. a small, independent 4-star beside a canal in Bangkok’s Old Town, scored for what it is.

Casa Vimaya Riverside is a small, independent 4-star that gets the important things right: cleanliness, comfortable rooms and a useful Old Town location. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the staff, while recent Tripadvisor reviews reinforce the appeal of its rooftop pool and easy access to Khao San Road without being directly amid the nightlife. We’d choose it for a sightseeing-focused Bangkok stay rather than a luxury escape.

The name needs unpacking: this is a canal-side hotel, not a Chao Phraya riverfront property. Rail stations are a substantial walk away, so cross-city trips need more planning. Some guests find rooms compact and balconies barely usable; breakfast is generally well liked, though not universally praised. Skip it if sweeping river views, spacious outdoor lounging or doorstep MRT access are priorities.

• Best for: couples exploring the Old Town; sightseers wanting a rooftop pool; travelers staying near Khao San Road

• Watch out for: canal frontage, not the Chao Phraya; a substantial walk to rail stations; some rooms and balconies feel compact

• Location: Walkable to Khao San Road and Old Town sights; less convenient for rail-based trips.

• Rooms: Comfort and cleanliness earn strong ratings; some guests describe compact rooms and tiny balconies.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a recurring positive across several review sites.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool, poolside bar, canal-side breakfast area and free Wi-Fi.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast inclusion depends on the booking; no on-site parking. Official-site policies could not be checked because the site timed out.
