Axel's take: 8.4/10

A comfortable Parnell base with free parking, but choose your room carefully. a practical 4-star hotel and apartment-style conference base in Parnell, scored for what it is.

The Parnell is a practical 4-star hotel with apartment-style options, strongest on comfort and convenience rather than polish. We'd pick it for an Auckland stay with a car or a family needing kitchen facilities. Recent Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Free parking is a genuine advantage, while selected balcony rooms add city and harbour views.

Room choice matters: some bathrooms have been renovated, but guests still describe dated furnishings and sound travelling between rooms. King rooms lack kitchenettes, and parking is shared with conference visitors rather than guaranteed. A May 2026 guest reported construction behind their room; whether it has finished is unconfirmed, so ask before booking. We'd skip it for a consistently polished four-star experience or a doorstep downtown location; it's a better fit for practical comfort outside the centre.

• Best for: families wanting apartment-style rooms; Auckland visitors with a car; conference attendees

• Watch out for: uneven room condition and soundproofing; free parking subject to availability; confirm status of reported construction

• Location: Residential Parnell setting near local restaurants; downtown requires a longer walk or transport.

• Rooms: Room sizes and facilities vary considerably; selected categories have renovated bathrooms, kitchenettes and balconies.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong across recent guest feedback, despite occasional maintenance complaints.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a recurring strength across several review sites.

• Amenities: Restaurant, free Wi-Fi, conference facilities and shared guest laundry; kitchenettes are category-dependent.

• Fees and surprises: Cashless; FAQ lists card transaction fees, contradicting the reservations policy, so confirm payment terms; parking is not guaranteed.
