#5 of 5 hotels in Ponsonby & Grey Lynn by Axel's take. Ponsonby & Grey Lynn is #7 of 10 places to stay in Auckland. The best hotels in Ponsonby & Grey Lynn, ranked · Where to stay in Auckland
Axel's take: 7.5/10
A handy Ponsonby base, with apartment comforts but some tired edges. a practical mid-range apartment hotel on Ponsonby Road, scored for what it is.
Quest Ponsonby is a practical mid-range apartment hotel rather than a full-service four-star. We'd pick it for easy access to Ponsonby's cafés, restaurants and shops, especially when kitchen and laundry facilities matter more than polished interiors. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious accommodation and helpful staff. It's a good fit for an independent stay built around the neighbourhood.
The main compromise is condition: Expedia and Trip.com guests describe dated rooms, with occasional maintenance niggles. Feedback on service is less consistent across the longer review history, although recent reports are mostly positive. Reception has limited hours—not the round-the-clock desk the catalog suggests—so arrange late arrival beforehand. Secure parking costs extra and can be tight. We'd skip it for a special-occasion hotel experience or if effortless, fully staffed service is essential.
-
