Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong self-catering base, with helpful staff but a real street-noise trade-off. a practical mid-range apartment hotel on central Queen Street, scored for what it is.

Quest Auckland is a practical mid-range apartment hotel rather than a polished four-star escape. We'd pick it for the useful combination of kitchen facilities, in-room laundry and a central Queen Street address near the theatres and universities. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the welcoming staff, comfortable beds and generally clean rooms. It's particularly well suited to longer stays where cooking and washing clothes matter more than hotel extras.

The compromises are tired finishes in places, tight paid parking and recurring traffic and nightclub noise on the Queen Street side; request a Myers Park-facing room. Arrange late arrival ahead rather than expecting round-the-clock reception. A September 2026 guest mentioned an imminent facelift, but its scope and completion remain unconfirmed. We'd skip it for a special-occasion stay or if guaranteed quiet is essential.

• Best for: longer-stay self-caterers; theatre and university visitors; families wanting apartment facilities

• Watch out for: Queen Street traffic and nightclub noise; tight, limited paid parking; late arrivals require advance arrangements

• Location: Central Queen Street beside Myers Park, convenient for theatres and universities rather than waterfront access.

• Rooms: Useful kitchen and laundry facilities, comfortable beds and balconies; some finishes look tired.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest scores, although some recent reviews flag missed cleaning and window mould.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are a consistent strength; reception hours are limited.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and self-catering facilities are the main draws; confirm current dining availability.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast cost extra; card surcharges and a refundable damage deposit are listed. Confirm any refurbishment disruption.
