#4 of 5 hotels in Takapuna by Axel's take. Takapuna is #10 of 10 places to stay in Auckland. The best hotels in Takapuna, ranked · Where to stay in Auckland
Axel's take: 7.1/10
Good North Shore value, but choose your room carefully and expect some noise. A budget motel-style complex on Auckland’s North Shore, scored for what it is.
Poenamo is a budget motel-style complex rather than a conventional city hotel, mixing studios, compact pods, villas and newer apartments. We’d consider it for a practical North Shore stop: free parking, an outdoor pool and nearby food outlets make short stays easy. Recent Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and value; some also report noticeably improved poolside rooms.
The catch is inconsistency. Older rooms still attract complaints about tired furnishings and patchy bathroom cleaning, while noise from other guests and the bar can interrupt sleep. Wi-Fi also draws repeated criticism. The hotel currently advertises minor renovations without a completion date, so check what work affects your room. It’s a sensible base for local appointments or sporting events, but we’d skip it for guaranteed quiet or consistently fresh interiors.
-

-
