Axel's take: 7.7/10

A comfortable Ellerslie base, but tired rooms and awkward parking hold it back. a practical 4.5-star business hotel beside Ellerslie Racecourse, scored for what it is.

Novotel Auckland Ellerslie is a practical 4.5-star business hotel beside the racecourse, better suited to conferences and local appointments than downtown sightseeing. It's a good pick when this part of Auckland is where you need to be. Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests praise the staff and breakfast, while Booking.com gives cleanliness and comfort strong marks. Acacia Restaurant, a garden bar and a gym cover the main business-hotel basics.

The drawback is age rather than a lack of facilities: worn carpets and dated bathrooms recur across sites, including October 2026 Accor reviews. Paid parking also attracts repeated complaints about availability, and recent feedback shows service follow-through can be uneven. We'd choose it for a convenient, comfortable short stay, but skip it for polished interiors or a sightseeing trip centered on walking around downtown.

• Best for: conference and racecourse visitors; business travelers working nearby; short stays for local appointments

• Watch out for: dated rooms and bathrooms; paid parking with limited availability; outside the downtown sightseeing core

• Location: Beside Ellerslie Racecourse, with motorway access and a nearby train station; not a downtown walking base.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise, but tired carpets and older bathrooms are recurring complaints.

• Cleanliness: Generally well rated: Booking.com scores cleanliness 8.7, despite occasional room-level lapses.

• Service: Friendly staff are a consistent strength, although recent guests report uneven problem handling.

• Amenities: Acacia Restaurant, garden bar, gym and free Wi-Fi; dining facilities are shared with the adjoining ibis.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and spaces can run short; breakfast is not included in every booking.
