Axel's take: 7.1/10

A practical Newmarket base, but room condition and noise are the compromises. A basic 3-star motel near Newmarket, scored for what it is.

Alpers Lodge is a basic 3-star motel in Epsom/Newmarket, and we'd consider it for a short, practical stay rather than a holiday splurge. Free parking, nearby shopping and in-room kitchen facilities make it useful for drivers and budget-conscious visitors. Recent Expedia and Agoda guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and clean rooms. It's good value if convenience matters more than polished interiors.

The catch is consistency: some guests describe refurbished rooms, while others still report tired bathrooms and maintenance issues. Sound carries between rooms, and April–June 2026 reviews also mention disruptive apartment construction next door; whether that work has finished is unconfirmed. The hotel's restaurant currently lists Sunday and public-holiday closures. We'd skip it for a reliably quiet retreat, and ask about the specific room's condition and neighboring construction before booking.

• Best for: Budget-conscious visitors to Newmarket; Drivers wanting free parking; Short hospital-related stays

• Watch out for: Uneven room condition; Sound transfer and reported neighboring construction; Restaurant closed Sundays and public holidays

• Location: Convenient for Newmarket shopping and nearby hospitals; outside the downtown core.

• Rooms: Studios and family rooms with kitchen facilities; refurbishment and maintenance appear uneven.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive recent feedback, though not uniformly consistent across rooms.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength in recent reviews.

• Amenities: Free parking and Wi-Fi, café/restaurant, laundry and conference facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Arrange arrivals after 9 p.m.; late checkout costs extra, and neighboring construction needs checking.
