#9 of 9 hotels in Monastiraki & Psyri by Axel's take. Monastiraki & Psyri is #1 of 9 places to stay in Athens. The best hotels in Monastiraki & Psyri, ranked · Where to stay in Athens

Axel's take: 7.8/10

Go for the central location and Acropolis views, not quiet or spacious rooms. a no-frills budget hostel with dorms and private rooms near Monastiraki, scored for what it is.

Pella Inn is a no-frills budget hostel with dorms and private rooms, and it's a good pick if sightseeing matters more than room comfort. Monastiraki's metro, restaurants and ancient sights are close by, while the rooftop terrace delivers the Acropolis views guests keep praising. Booking.com and Expedia guests also repeatedly single out the helpful reception staff. For travelers happy with simple accommodation, the location makes it good value.

The compromises are real: small rooms, cramped bathrooms and nighttime street noise recur in reviews. Cleanliness earns mostly positive feedback, though some recent guests report lapses; dorm beds also lack privacy curtains. The terrace is well documented, but rooftop bar service is less certain despite the official advertising. We'd skip it for light sleepers or anyone wanting spacious, polished accommodation.

  • Best for: budget-minded sightseers; solo travelers comfortable with basic dorms; couples seeking a simple central base

  • Watch out for: nighttime street noise; small rooms and cramped bathrooms; limited dorm privacy

  • Location: Excellent for walking around central Athens, with Monastiraki metro a few minutes away.

  • Rooms: Basic dorms and private rooms; some have Acropolis-facing balconies, but space is limited.

  • Cleanliness: Generally satisfactory for the class, with some recent reports of missed cleaning.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are a consistent strength; reception operates around the clock.

  • Amenities: Rooftop terrace, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and lift; confirm whether rooftop bar service operates.

  • Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a seasonal local tax payable at the property; no onsite parking.
