Axel's take: 8.2/10

Strong on space and service, but renovation works complicate an otherwise comfortable Athens base. a large five-star business hotel south of Athens’ historic center, scored for what it is.

This large five-star business hotel on Syngrou Avenue is a strong pick for room space and attentive service rather than doorstep sightseeing. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the spacious refurbished rooms, comfortable beds, cleanliness and generous breakfast. We'd shortlist it for families and business travelers comfortable using taxis or public transport.

The compromises matter at this level. The setting lacks the charm and sightseeing convenience of Plaka, and renovations have generated repeated drilling complaints. An official notice lists internal enhancements through November 2026; confirm the work schedule before booking. IHG also announces Premiere Rooftop Restaurant renovations from November 2026 through April 2027, and spa closure from December 2026 through February 2027. The outdoor pool is seasonal. We'd skip it for a quiet retreat during works or a walk-everywhere city break.

  • Best for: families wanting spacious rooms; business and conference travelers; travelers comfortable using taxis or transit

  • Watch out for: renovation work and potential drilling noise; scheduled rooftop restaurant and spa closures; outside the historic sightseeing core

  • Location: Business-and-residential setting near tram and metro connections; less convenient than Plaka for sightseeing on foot.

  • Rooms: Spacious refurbished rooms draw strong praise; some guests still find parts of the property dated.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent reviews and major booking-site category ratings.

  • Service: Usually warm, professional and helpful, with occasional check-in and porter-service lapses.

  • Amenities: Gym, spa and seasonal outdoor pool; confirm pool dates and scheduled restaurant and spa closures.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast cost extra unless included; a seasonal accommodation tax is collected at the property.
