Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong sightseeing base with welcoming staff and Acropolis views, but compact rooms. a comfortable 4-star beside the Acropolis Museum, scored for what it is.

Herodion is a comfortable 4-star beside the Acropolis Museum, and we'd put it high on the list for a first Athens visit. You're close to Plaka, the Acropolis entrance and the metro, while the rooftop adds a memorable Parthenon backdrop to dinner. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, cleanliness and generous breakfast; Booking.com's strong overall ratings reinforce that picture. It's a strong pick for travelers who prioritize sightseeing over sprawling hotel facilities.

The compromise is room space: even superior doubles can be compact, and an Acropolis view requires the right category. Several Tripadvisor guests also report sound carrying between rooms, so light sleepers should request a room away from the elevator. Point A rooftop dining is seasonal, and the wellness offering is two hot tubs and an outdoor workout area—not a full resort setup. We'd skip it if spacious rooms or dependable silence are essential.

• Best for: first-time Athens visitors; couples on sightseeing breaks; travelers exploring without a car

• Watch out for: compact rooms and variable outlooks; sound carrying between rooms; seasonal rooftop dining

• Location: Beside the Acropolis Museum, with Plaka and Akropoli metro an easy walk away.

• Rooms: Comfortable but compact; superior doubles are listed at 16–21 square meters, with views depending on category.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong guest feedback, including a 9.3 cleanliness rating on Booking.com.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a recurring strength across Tripadvisor, Expedia and Booking.com.

• Amenities: Praised breakfast, seasonal rooftop restaurant, two hot tubs and an outdoor workout area.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a seasonal accommodation tax collected at the property; hot tubs require reception-issued usage cards and have time limits.
