#4 of 9 hotels in Monastiraki & Psyri by Axel's take. Monastiraki & Psyri is #1 of 9 places to stay in Athens. The best hotels in Monastiraki & Psyri, ranked · Where to stay in Athens

Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong-value Athens base with helpful staff and a rooftop worth lingering on. a simple, family-run 3-star near Monastiraki Square, scored for what it is.

Attalos is a simple, family-run 3-star that gets the city-break essentials right. A few minutes from Monastiraki Square and its metro, it makes sightseeing and airport connections straightforward. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff. The rooftop bar’s Acropolis view is the standout extra: a good reason to spend an evening at the hotel rather than just sleep there.

The trade-off is polish and space. Several guests describe compact rooms, tight bathrooms and dated finishes; the lifts are small too. Noise reports vary, so light sleepers should discuss room placement before booking. Breakfast generally earns good feedback, but isn’t included in every reservation. It’s a strong pick for travelers prioritizing location and dependable basics; we’d skip it for a spacious, design-led stay.

  • Best for: first-time Athens sightseers; value-minded couples; car-free city breaks

  • Watch out for: compact rooms and bathrooms; small lifts; variable street and nightlife noise

  • Location: Walkable central base near Monastiraki metro, restaurants, Plaka and the Ancient Agora.

  • Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms; balcony categories are available, but space and outlook vary.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently praised across recent guest reviews, including for attentive housekeeping.

  • Service: Helpful reception staff are a recurring strength; the front desk operates around the clock.

  • Amenities: Acropolis-view rooftop bar, Greek breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi and a guest lounge.

  • Fees and surprises: Seasonal accommodation tax is collected at the property; breakfast depends on your booking, and parking is off-site and paid.
