Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong-value ferry stopover, with clean rooms and helpful staff. a simple, family-run 2-star near Piraeus ferry port, scored for what it is.

Argo is a simple, family-run 2-star in Piraeus, and we'd choose it for a practical overnight before the islands. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and ferry convenience; recent Tripadvisor feedback also describes renovated, comfortable rooms. Its appeal is straightforward: a comfortable bed, air-conditioning and useful transport connections without paying for facilities you won't use.

Room choice matters. Guests often describe compact spaces, and the hotel's website distinguishes standard bathrooms with shower curtains from superior and deluxe rooms with enclosed showers. Breakfast starts at 6am but costs extra unless included in your booking. Check your actual departure gate rather than assuming every ferry—or cruise terminal—is close. We'd skip it for a beach holiday or a stay centered on walking around Athens' main sights.

  • Best for: overnight ferry connections; budget-conscious couples and solo travelers; late arrivals needing 24-hour reception

  • Watch out for: compact rooms and bathrooms; bathroom fittings vary by category; check the distance to your departure terminal

  • Location: Convenient for Piraeus ferries and metro connections, rather than central Athens sightseeing.

  • Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms; confirm the category, size and shower setup before booking.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guest feedback.

  • Service: Helpful reception staff are repeatedly praised; the desk operates around the clock.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, a bar, luggage storage and an early breakfast buffet cover stopover essentials.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast and airport transfers can cost extra; Expedia lists a seasonal accommodation tax payable at the property.
