Axel's take: 9.0/10

Bold design, excellent comfort and easy transport make this more than a conference hotel. a design-led 4-star high-rise beside the RAI convention centre, scored for what it is.

nhow Amsterdam RAI is a design-led 4-star high-rise that delivers more personality than the usual conference hotel. It's a strong pick for comfortable rooms, skyline views and easy transport rather than canal-side atmosphere. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and helpful staff; breakfast is another standout. The colourful interiors and 24th-floor Selva restaurant give it appeal beyond its location beside the RAI.

The main compromise is geography: you're outside the historic centre, so expect metro trips rather than sightseeing straight from the doorstep. A few recent guests mention corridor noise or front-desk waits, but these aren't the dominant story. Parking costs extra, and there is no swimming pool despite some amenity listings. We'd skip it if old-Amsterdam character or a pool matters more than modern comfort and transport links.

• Best for: RAI conference visitors; design-minded city breakers; travelers happy using public transport

• Watch out for: Outside the historic centre; Occasional corridor-noise reports; Paid parking; no swimming pool

• Location: Beside the RAI, with nearby metro, tram and rail links; not a historic-centre address.

• Rooms: Colourful, modern rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows; comfortable beds receive consistent praise.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent guest accounts.

• Service: Usually friendly and helpful, with occasional reports of front-desk delays.

• Amenities: Highly praised breakfast, gym, terraces and skyline dining at Selva; no pool.

• Fees and surprises: On-site parking and pets cost extra; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.
