Axel's take: 7.9/10

Historic character and helpful staff, with nightlife noise as the main compromise. a historic 4-star on Amsterdam’s lively Rembrandtplein, scored for what it is.

NH Amsterdam Schiller is a historic 4-star on Rembrandtplein, and it’s a strong pick if you want central Amsterdam on your doorstep. Its preserved Art Deco interiors give it more personality than a standard chain hotel, while the bedrooms were renovated in 2020. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and easy sightseeing on foot or by tram. We’d choose it for an active city break rather than a quiet retreat.

The trade-off is the nightlife outside: several guests report late-night music and bass, although others find their rooms surprisingly quiet. Standard rooms can feel compact, and breakfast gets mixed verdicts on variety and value. Ask for a room away from the square, without assuming silence is guaranteed. We’d skip it if uninterrupted sleep or generous room space tops your list.

• Best for: sightseeing-focused city breaks; travelers who enjoy nightlife; fans of historic hotels

• Watch out for: late-night club music and bass; compact standard rooms; mixed breakfast feedback

• Location: Central Rembrandtplein setting, with trams outside and restaurants, canals and shopping nearby.

• Rooms: Air-conditioned and renovated in 2020; standard doubles measure 18–20 square meters.

• Cleanliness: Recent guest feedback is predominantly positive, especially on Expedia.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are a consistent strength across recent reviews.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, breakfast buffet, room service and Café Kuyl restaurant and bar.

• Fees and surprises: Check city-tax inclusion and breakfast terms; parking is paid and off-site or valet.
