Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong sightseeing base with helpful staff and comfortable rooms, rather than destination-hotel luxury. a comfortable 4-star city hotel beside Leidseplein, scored for what it is.

NH Amsterdam Leidseplein is a comfortable 4-star city hotel that gets the important things right: location, cleanliness and service. We'd pick it for a museum-focused Amsterdam break, with Vondelpark nearby and restaurants and trams within easy reach. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the staff, comfortable beds and breakfast, while the brand confirms a completed restyling. It's a dependable sightseeing base rather than somewhere to spend the whole day.

The trade-offs are mostly practical. Some rooms and bathrooms feel compact, and street-facing accommodation can bring noise; recent guests also report quiet nights in rear rooms, so request a courtyard-facing room if sleep matters most. Breakfast isn't automatically included, and there's no on-site parking. We'd skip it if generous room space or easy parking is essential.

• Best for: museum-focused city breaks; first-time Amsterdam visitors; travelers exploring without a car

• Watch out for: possible noise in street-facing rooms; some compact rooms and bathrooms; no on-site parking

• Location: Excellent for the Museum Quarter, Vondelpark, Leidseplein restaurants and nearby trams.

• Rooms: Restyled interiors and comfortable beds; space and nighttime quiet vary by room category and outlook.

• Cleanliness: Strong cleanliness ratings on Booking.com and Expedia, reinforced by recent guest comments.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are one of the most consistent strengths across guest-review sites.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, gym, breakfast buffet and Bar & Kitchen Copper; confirm spa availability before relying on older listings.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; pets carry a supplement, and parking is off-site.
