Axel's take: 9.1/10

A standout small hotel for warm service and canal-side character, not sprawling rooms. a small 3-star boutique hotel on a Jordaan canal, scored for what it is.

Mr. Jordaan is a small 3-star boutique hotel that delivers unusually well on hospitality and neighborhood appeal. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the welcoming staff, cleanliness and walkable Jordaan setting, close to restaurants and the Anne Frank House without sitting on a busy main street. Complimentary round-the-clock coffee and a comfortable communal lounge add genuine appeal. It’s a strong pick for travelers who prefer personality and thoughtful basics to extensive facilities.

Space is the compromise: the hotel lists small doubles at 13 square meters, and recent guests repeatedly mention compact bedrooms and bathrooms. The lift is notably slow, while narrow stairs warrant checking access arrangements before booking. Choose a canal-view category specifically if that matters. We’d skip it if generous rooms or effortless mobility access are priorities.

• Best for: couples exploring Amsterdam on foot; solo travelers who enjoy small hotels; travelers prioritizing personal service

• Watch out for: compact rooms and bathrooms; slow lift and narrow stairs; canal views require the right room category

• Location: Calmer Bloemgracht setting near Jordaan cafés, shops and the Anne Frank House; no hotel parking.

• Rooms: Small doubles are 13 m² with 140 cm beds; larger canal-view doubles are 18 m².

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, supported by Booking.com’s 9.2 cleanliness score.

• Service: Friendly, attentive staff are the clearest recurring strength across booking sites.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, 24-hour reception and complimentary lounge coffee; breakfast costs extra.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion and room access; the hotel also flags Amsterdam roadworks affecting transport routes.
