Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong waterfront choice for comfort and cruises, less so for canal-side atmosphere. a large 4-star waterfront hotel beside Amsterdam’s cruise terminal, scored for what it is.

This large 4-star on the IJ waterfront is a strong pick for comfortable rooms, open views and easy cruise departures. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the cleanliness, helpful staff, comfortable beds and generous breakfast. It delivers the dependable comfort you want from an upscale chain hotel, with a gym and saunas adding useful extras.

The main compromise is location: despite the City Centre name, you’re outside the historic canal streets, roughly 15 minutes’ walk from Centraal Station, with a tram stop nearby. Guests also flag the limited restaurant choice immediately around the hotel. Breakfast costs extra unless included, and parking is charged separately. We’d choose it for a cruise or a quieter sightseeing base; skip it if stepping straight into Amsterdam’s café-and-canal atmosphere matters most.

• Best for: cruise passengers; travelers prioritizing room comfort and views; business and conference stays

• Watch out for: outside the historic canal core; limited dining immediately nearby; breakfast and parking can add to the bill

• Location: Beside Passenger Terminal Amsterdam; about 15 minutes on foot to Centraal, with nearby tram connections.

• Rooms: Classic rooms start at 26 square meters; guests frequently praise comfortable beds, space and views.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength overall: Booking.com and Expedia cleanliness ratings are strong, backed by recent guest comments.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent positive across Expedia, Trip.com and Accor’s verified reviews.

• Amenities: Restaurant, lounge bar, free Wi-Fi, 24-hour gym and a wellness studio with Finnish and bio saunas.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; public garage parking costs extra, and Expedia lists a separate city tax.
