#3 of 9 hotels in Leidseplein & Museum Quarter by Axel's take. Leidseplein & Museum Quarter is #3 of 12 places to stay in Amsterdam. The best hotels in Leidseplein & Museum Quarter, ranked · Where to stay in Amsterdam

Axel's take: 8.7/10

A friendly, well-located budget base, provided you can handle the stairs. a small, no-frills 2-star near Leidseplein, scored for what it is.

La Bohème is a small, no-frills 2-star near Leidseplein that gets the important things right: welcoming staff, generally clean rooms and a handy sightseeing location. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the personal help and warm atmosphere, with recent reviews continuing that pattern. We'd pick it for a short Amsterdam break where location and hospitality matter more than room size or extras. The breakfast and cozy reception area add appeal beyond the basic bedrooms.

The main compromise is the building: stairs are steep and narrow, and there's no elevator. Rooms and bathrooms can be compact, while street-facing rooms trade tram convenience for noise; request the quieter rear if that matters. The three single rooms share a shower and toilet. We'd skip it for mobility limitations, heavy luggage or a stay centered on spacious, quiet rooms.

Best for: Sightseers traveling light; Couples happy with simple rooms; Concert and theater visitors
Watch out for: Steep, narrow stairs; no elevator; Street noise in front-facing rooms; Shared facilities in single rooms
Location: Near Leidseplein, Melkweg and tram connections, with the museum district walkable.
Rooms: Simple, often compact; doubles, twins and triples have private bathrooms, while singles share facilities.
Cleanliness: Generally strong guest feedback, supported by good cleanliness ratings across Booking.com and Expedia.
Service: The standout strength: guests consistently praise friendly staff and useful local advice.
Amenities: Breakfast, free Wi-Fi, a small bar, luggage storage and all-day coffee and tea; a resident cat.
Fees and surprises: The hotel says tourist tax is included for direct and Booking.com reservations but collected on arrival for Expedia bookings.
