Axel's take: 8.1/10

A dependable sightseeing base with helpful staff, but compact rooms and few extras. a straightforward 3-star city hotel near Waterlooplein, scored for what it is.

This straightforward 3-star ibis is a strong pick for travelers who want a practical Amsterdam base rather than a hotel to linger in. Waterlooplein’s metro and trams are a short walk away, with Rembrandtplein and central sights reachable on foot. Recent Expedia and Accor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, comfortable beds and generally clean rooms; breakfast also earns consistent approval. We'd choose it for a short sightseeing trip.

The trade-off is space and simplicity: rooms and bathrooms are compact, and recent Trip.com guests repeatedly note missing kettles in standard rooms. Some Accor guests also mention thin towels and patchy Wi-Fi. Breakfast costs extra unless included, and parking is in a paid public garage nearby, not on site. We'd skip it if spacious rooms, generous in-room amenities or immediate access to Centraal station are priorities.

• Best for: couples on short city breaks; sightseers comfortable exploring on foot; travelers who prefer familiar hotel basics

• Watch out for: compact rooms and bathrooms; limited standard-room extras; paid parking off site

• Location: Near Waterlooplein transit, with central sights walkable; not beside Centraal station.

• Rooms: Simple rooms start at 17 square meters; comfortable beds are praised, but space is limited.

• Cleanliness: Generally praised across recent reviews, despite occasional housekeeping lapses.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the most consistent strengths across sources.

• Amenities: Breakfast buffet, casual bar serving food, courtyard, Wi-Fi and 24-hour reception.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may be extra; nearby public parking and pets carry charges, and city tax applies.
