Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong Amsterdam base for helpful service and comfortable beds—choose your room carefully. a 4-star boutique hotel beside the canal near De Pijp, scored for what it is.

Hotel Notting Hill is a 4-star boutique hotel that gets the important things right: clean rooms, comfortable beds and genuinely helpful staff. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise those basics, with recent reviews keeping the picture reassuringly positive. We'd pick it for exploring De Pijp, visiting the museums and getting around by tram, rather than for extensive hotel facilities.

The main catch is room selection. Some guests find rooms compact, souterrain categories sit below street level with limited views, and attic rooms are sold without a view. Recent guests on Trip.com and Hotels.com also flag soundproofing or outside noise, so light sleepers should request a quieter, higher-floor room. The gym is small, and breakfast costs extra unless included. We'd skip it if generous space or a guaranteed outlook matters most.

• Best for: couples on a city break; museum and De Pijp explorers; travelers happy using trams

• Watch out for: limited-view basement and attic categories; noise in some rooms; compact rooms and a small gym

• Location: Convenient for De Pijp, museums and nearby tram stops, rather than right beside Dam Square.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and well-kept interiors; size, outlook and noise vary by category.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and recent Expedia guest reviews.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn repeated praise across several booking sites.

• Amenities: Bar, breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi and a small 24-hour gym.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may be extra; city tax and a damage deposit are listed, and there is no on-site parking.
