Axel's take: 7.8/10

A strong sightseeing base, but room choice matters more than the stylish lobby. a riverside 4-star city hotel near Rembrandtplein, scored for what it is.

Eden, now Leonardo Eden Hotel Amsterdam City Center, is a riverside 4-star whose biggest strength is its address: the Amstel outside, Rembrandtplein nearby, and easy tram and metro connections. It’s a good pick for travelers spending their days exploring rather than expecting a destination hotel. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff and convenient location, with breakfast another regular positive.

The rooms are less consistent than the setting. Recent guests describe some as small and dark, and maintenance and air-conditioning feedback varies. Check the exact category rather than assuming every room matches the brighter photographs. The hotel also confirms housekeeping is on request through its app, while most separate apartments require stairs. We’d choose it for a short city break, but skip it if spacious rooms and automatic daily servicing are priorities.

• Best for: first-time Amsterdam sightseers; couples on a short city break; travelers prioritizing walkability

• Watch out for: some rooms are small and dark; housekeeping must be requested; most separate apartments are stairs-only

• Location: Excellent central base on the Amstel, close to Rembrandtplein, trams and Waterlooplein metro.

• Rooms: Room size and daylight vary; recent feedback also flags occasional maintenance and cooling problems.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive feedback, though not uniformly spotless; cleaning is on request rather than automatic.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are one of the most consistent positives across sites.

• Amenities: Breakfast buffet, bar, free Wi-Fi, billiards and a lobby mini-market; pets are now allowed.

• Fees and surprises: Budget for breakfast unless included, city tax and pet charges; parking is in a nearby paid garage.
