A strong airport overnight, provided you can live with very little room. A design-led, select-service 4-star a short walk from Schiphol’s terminal, scored for what it is.

citizenM is a design-led, select-service 4-star that gets the airport overnight right: a short walk from Schiphol’s terminal, a big bed, and somewhere welcoming to sit outside your bedroom. We’d choose it for an early departure or late arrival. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. The hotel’s 24-hour canteenM and communal living room are useful when your body clock is elsewhere.

The compromise is space, not a widespread failure of the basics. Bedrooms are genuinely tiny, the bed fills the room’s width, and couples may need to climb over each other. Guests also flag limited bathroom privacy; tablet-operated controls won’t suit everyone. Breakfast costs extra, and there’s no on-site parking. We’d skip it for a luggage-heavy stay or a longer Amsterdam holiday: you’re paying for airport convenience, not room to spread out.

• Best for: Early departures and late arrivals; Solo overnight travelers; Couples traveling light

• Watch out for: Tiny rooms with awkward shared-bed access; Limited bathroom privacy; Tablet-operated room controls

• Location: Roughly five minutes on foot from the terminal, with city trains available at the airport.

• Rooms: Big beds and rainfall showers, but very little floor space and tablet-based controls.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback, with recent guests across sites repeatedly praising clean rooms.

• Service: Self-service check-in with staff assistance; helpful, friendly employees are a recurring strength.

• Amenities: 24-hour canteenM, communal lounges, free Wi-Fi and meeting rooms.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra; no on-site parking or airport shuttle; housekeeping is on request.
