Axel's take: 8.6/10

Generous rooms and warm service make this a strong neighborhood base. a 4-star boutique hotel in a converted church in Amsterdam West, scored for what it is.

Chassé is a 4-star boutique hotel in a converted church in Amsterdam West, and a strong pick for travelers who prefer neighborhood cafés to the tourist bustle. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise spacious rooms, comfortable beds, cleanliness and welcoming staff; recent reviews remain enthusiastic about breakfast. We'd choose it for a comfortable city break with more breathing room, especially with family.

The trade-off is location: trams are close, but the main sights aren't on your doorstep. The building also houses dance studios, and some guests report internal noise or activity around the complex despite the generally peaceful neighborhood. Check your exact room before booking: several duplex and balcony categories have no elevator access. We'd skip those rooms with heavy luggage or limited mobility, and request a quieter position if sleep is your priority.

• Best for: couples seeking a neighborhood base; families wanting larger rooms; travelers happy using trams

• Watch out for: some room categories require stairs; occasional internal and dance-studio noise; tram rides to major sights

• Location: Residential De Baarsjes, with cafés and nearby trams rather than a central sightseeing address.

• Rooms: Spacious, individually styled rooms; confirm layout and elevator access for your category.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com and Expedia, including recent guest feedback.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff and luggage storage receive repeated praise.

• Amenities: Well-liked buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi, bike rental and listed fitness facilities.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast may cost extra; parking is paid and offsite, and city tax applies.
