#4 of 9 hotels in Amsterdam Noord by Axel's take. Amsterdam Noord is #9 of 12 places to stay in Amsterdam. The best hotels in Amsterdam Noord, ranked · Where to stay in Amsterdam

Axel's take: 8.4/10

Big character and friendly staff, provided you can live with very little space. A design-led budget hotel and pod hostel in a converted church, scored for what it is.

BUNK is a budget hotel–hostel hybrid in a converted church in Amsterdam Noord, mixing private rooms with dormitory pods. It’s a strong pick for travelers who value character and welcoming staff over floor space. Booking.com and Expedia guests broadly praise cleanliness and service, while recent Trip.com reviews repeatedly recommend the restaurant and bar. Getting downtown means a walk and a ferry or metro ride, rather than stepping straight into the canal belt.

The main compromise is space: BUNK says its Compact Room measures just eight square meters. Recent guests also flag limited bathroom privacy in some private rooms, and summer reviews on multiple sites mention heat or poor ventilation. Pods have shared bathrooms, not private facilities. We’d choose it for a short, sociable city break; skip it if you need roomy accommodation, dependable summer cooling or complete bathroom privacy.

Best for: Solo travelers comfortable with pods; Design-minded budget travelers; Friends on short city breaks
Watch out for: Very small private rooms; Limited bathroom privacy in some rooms; Summer heat and ventilation complaints
Location: Amsterdam Noord, with ferry or metro connections to the center; allow for the walk to transport.
Rooms: Private rooms and shared-dorm pods; Compact Rooms are eight square meters, and some bathrooms have translucent partitions.
Cleanliness: Strong overall guest feedback; private-room cleaning is scheduled every third day, not daily.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Trip.com.
Amenities: Restaurant, bar, free Wi-Fi and bike rentals; no guest kitchen, and pods use shared bathrooms.
Fees and surprises: Breakfast, parking and luggage lockers cost extra; additional room cleaning carries a charge.
