Axel's take: 7.7/10

A good-value Universal base, with basic rooms and renovation disruption to check A budget 3-star with motel-style rooms near Universal, scored for what it is.

This budget 3-star is really a motel-style property with exterior room entrances, and we'd choose it for park-focused value rather than hotel polish. Booking.com and Expedia both rate it around 8/10, with location, helpful staff and generally clean, comfortable rooms doing the heavy lifting. Free parking, an outdoor pool, hot tub and scheduled Universal shuttle make it a practical base.

The trade-offs are uneven housekeeping, noise between rooms and a shuttle timetable that may not suit long park days. Recent Expedia guests report remodeled rooms alongside ongoing refurbishment; a September 2026 Reddit report specifically mentions roof work restricting parking. Confirm whether that work is finished before booking. Breakfast costs extra, and upstairs rooms mean stairs rather than an elevator. We'd skip it for a quiet hotel-centered holiday, but it's a sensible option when most of your time is at Universal.

• Best for: Budget-conscious Universal visitors; Families spending most days at the parks; Drivers wanting free parking

• Watch out for: Recent roof work and refurbishment reports; Room noise and uneven housekeeping; Limited shuttle schedule; no elevator

• Location: Convenient for Universal; guests commonly describe roughly a 20-minute walk, not a doorstep park entrance.

• Rooms: Basic exterior-access rooms; some recent guests report remodeling, but soundproofing remains a weakness.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive across the larger review pools, with recurring exceptions involving floors and housekeeping.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength; confirm how to arrange room cleaning.

• Amenities: Outdoor pool, hot tub, fitness center, restaurant and free scheduled Universal shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; breakfast and pets cost extra, and Expedia lists a deposit; confirm construction status.
