Axel's take: 7.4/10

A practical Montreal base with free parking, but room condition varies. a practical, independently run 4-star hotel beside the Décarie Expressway, scored for what it is.

Ruby Foo’s is a practical 4-star beside the Décarie Expressway, not a polished downtown retreat. We'd consider it for a car-and-metro visit: parking is free, Namur station is a short walk away, and guests regularly praise the spacious rooms, comfortable beds and helpful reception staff. Booking.com and Expedia ratings remain solid overall. The hotel identifies its Signature rooms as newly renovated; those would be our first choice.

The catch is uneven upkeep. Recent Tripadvisor guests describe worn furnishings and housekeeping misses, although many recent Expedia reviewers report clean, comfortable stays. That inconsistency makes it harder to recommend for travelers expecting dependable four-star polish. The outdoor pool is seasonal, normally operating from mid-June to mid-September, so it is not an October amenity. We'd skip it for a walk-everywhere downtown holiday.

• Best for: drivers combining free parking with metro trips; families wanting larger rooms; business travelers with appointments nearby

• Watch out for: uneven room condition and housekeeping; outside the downtown sightseeing core; outdoor pool closed outside summer season

• Location: Near Namur metro and roadside dining; convenient by car, but not a central sightseeing address.

• Rooms: Generally spacious with comfortable beds; renovated Signature rooms are the safer choice over older inventory.

• Cleanliness: Positive overall ratings, but recent housekeeping complaints are substantial enough to weigh.

• Service: Reception staff frequently earn praise; resolving room problems appears less consistent.

• Amenities: Gym, on-site dining, four-season skating rink and a summer-only heated outdoor pool; check sauna availability.

• Fees and surprises: Standard outdoor parking is free; oversized vehicles incur an extra charge, and breakfast is not automatically included.
