Axel's take: 7.7/10

A good-value Chinatown base, provided you can live with basic, sometimes tired rooms. A no-frills 3-star hotel in Bangkok’s Chinatown, scored for what it is.

Arawana Express Chinatown is a no-frills 3-star for travelers who prioritize food, markets and MRT access over hotel facilities. We’d shortlist it for a budget sightseeing stay: Yaowarat and Wat Mangkon station are a short walk away, and the kitchenettes add practical value. Recent Trip.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the convenient location and helpful staff, with plenty also finding their rooms clean and comfortable.

The compromise is room quality rather than location. Reviews describe dated furnishings and some wear, while noise reports vary by room. Check the category carefully: some rooms have no windows, while others offer windows or balconies. The hotel confirms there is no pool, gym, restaurant or parking. It’s good for travelers spending their days exploring; we’d skip it for a polished hotel experience or reliably quiet nights.

• Best for: Budget-minded solo travelers and couples; Chinatown food and market explorers; Sightseers using the MRT

• Watch out for: Some room categories have no windows; Dated furnishings and variable noise; No pool, gym, restaurant or parking

• Location: An alley setting close to Yaowarat’s food streets and a short walk from Wat Mangkon MRT.

• Rooms: Basic rooms with kitchenettes; window, balcony and windowless categories make room selection important.

• Cleanliness: Recent guests often report clean rooms, though the broader feedback is positive rather than uniformly spotless.

• Service: Helpful, friendly reception staff are a recurring strength across recent guest accounts.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, fridge, kitchenette and luggage storage; no pool, gym or on-site restaurant.

• Fees and surprises: No on-site parking; check the selected rate’s payment and cancellation conditions before booking.
