#3 of 7 hotels in Greenlane & Ellerslie by Axel's take. Greenlane & Ellerslie is #9 of 10 places to stay in Auckland. The best hotels in Greenlane & Ellerslie, ranked · Where to stay in Auckland
Axel's take: 8.0/10
Refreshed rooms make this a strong budget base, provided you can tolerate neighbor noise. A budget 3-star motel in Auckland’s Ellerslie–Greenlane area, scored for what it is.
Sai is a straightforward 3-star motel that looks increasingly worth considering for a practical Auckland stay. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff, with reviews from late 2025 through 2026 describing refurbished interiors. The older exterior and middling historical ratings don’t tell the whole story. Free parking, nearby food options and walking access to Ellerslie station strengthen the value proposition.
The main compromise is sound insulation: guests on both sites mention hearing neighboring rooms. We'd request a refurbished unit and confirm its cooking facilities rather than assume every room has the same setup. Wi-Fi information also conflicts between booking sites, so check whether access is included. It’s a good fit for budget-conscious drivers and short local visits; light sleepers and travelers wanting central-city atmosphere should look elsewhere.
-

-

-
