Axel's take: 7.8/10

A strong museum-hopping base, provided you can live with very small rooms. a compact 4-star city hotel beside the Rijksmuseum, scored for what it is.

This compact 4-star beside the Rijksmuseum makes more sense as a sightseeing base than somewhere to linger. We'd pick it for museum-heavy days, walks through Vondelpark and easy access to Leidseplein. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the location and helpful staff, while recent Expedia reviews are broadly positive about cleanliness and breakfast. It's a good choice when convenience matters more than generous space or full-service luxury.

The recurring compromise is room size: doubles and bathrooms can feel genuinely cramped, and some categories explicitly have limited views. Check the room description carefully rather than assuming every room overlooks a canal. The hotel also confirms that housekeeping is on request, not automatic. We'd skip it for a spacious romantic retreat or a longer stay with lots of luggage.

• Best for: museum-focused city breaks; couples traveling light; sightseers who spend days out

• Watch out for: very small rooms and bathrooms; limited-view room categories; housekeeping must be requested

• Location: Beside the Rijksmuseum, with other major museums, Vondelpark and Leidseplein within walking distance.

• Rooms: Air-conditioned and generally comfortable, but cramped layouts are the most consistent complaint.

• Cleanliness: Broadly positive on Booking.com and Expedia; a few disputed pest reports on Trip.com warrant caution but do not establish a widespread problem.

• Service: Helpful reception staff earn repeated praise across sites, though individual service experiences vary.

• Amenities: Breakfast buffet, restaurant/bar, courtyard terrace, bike rental and free Wi-Fi.

• Fees and surprises: Check whether breakfast is included; nearby public parking costs extra, and room cleaning is on request.
