Axel's take: 8.4/10
Historic character and excellent transport links, with pool access costing extra. a large, full-service 4-star in a historic post office opposite Central Station, scored for what it is.
Clarion Hotel Post is a large 4-star in Gothenburg’s former post office, opposite Central Station. It’s a strong pick for a city break: the building has character, transport is exceptionally convenient, and Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the breakfast, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Cleanliness scores are reassuringly strong, too. Restaurants, bars, a free gym and a rooftop pool give it more appeal than a straightforward station hotel.
The catch is that pool and spa access cost extra; don’t assume they come with your room. Some recent guests also report intrusive music or rooms that struggle to stay cool, though positive stays comfortably dominate. Parking needs planning, with limited spaces at the hotel and nearby alternatives. We’d choose it for convenience and a lively atmosphere, rather than a quiet, all-inclusive spa escape.
-
Best for: city breaks arriving by train; business travelers wanting full-service facilities; couples who enjoy lively hotel bars
-
Watch out for: extra charges for pool and spa access; some reports of music noise and weak cooling; limited parking at the hotel
-
Location: Opposite Central Station, with trams nearby and central shopping within easy walking distance.
-
Rooms: Comfort and beds earn strong praise; some guests flag cooling problems and occasional wear.
-
Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings across Booking.com and Expedia outweigh occasional housekeeping complaints.
-
Service: Friendly, helpful reception and restaurant staff are a consistent strength in guest reviews.
-
Amenities: Norda and VRÅ restaurants, bars, a free gym, rooftop pool and Skönhetsfabriken spa.
-
Fees and surprises: Pool and spa cost extra; check breakfast inclusion and reserve hotel parking ahead.
