#6 of 9 hotels in Hauptbahnhof & Central by Axel's take. Hauptbahnhof & Central is #3 of 9 places to stay in Zurich. The best hotels in Hauptbahnhof & Central, ranked · Where to stay in Zurich

Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong station-side base, with dependable comfort rather than four-star sparkle. A historic 4-star city hotel beside Zurich’s main station, scored for what it is.

St. Gotthard is a historic 4-star on Bahnhofstrasse, best judged as a convenient city base rather than a luxury escape. Its biggest advantage is being a short walk from Zurich’s main station, with shopping, restaurants and trams close by. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the location, clean rooms and helpful staff. We’d pick it for a short city break or a rail itinerary where easy arrivals matter.

The trade-off is uneven polish: recent Expedia and Trip.com reviews describe some dated interiors, and smaller rooms can feel tight with luggage. Overall feedback remains positive, but you’re paying partly for the address. Breakfast earns praise, though it isn’t included in every booking. We’d skip it if contemporary design, generous room space or on-site parking are priorities.

Best for: Rail travelers and short stopovers; Sightseers exploring without a car; Central shopping breaks
Watch out for: Some dated interiors and compact rooms; Breakfast not always included; No on-site parking
Location: Excellent Bahnhofstrasse position, a short walk from the main station and Old Town.
Rooms: Generally comfortable, but size and decorative freshness vary by room.
Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and Trip.com.
Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a recurring positive in recent reviews.
Amenities: Restaurants, bars, a terrace and an official guest-only Technogym fitness room.
Fees and surprises: City tax applies; breakfast and pets can cost extra, and Expedia lists no on-site parking.
