#7 of 9 hotels in Hauptbahnhof & Central by Axel's take. Hauptbahnhof & Central is #3 of 9 places to stay in Zurich. The best hotels in Hauptbahnhof & Central, ranked · Where to stay in Zurich

Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical station-area base, but compact rooms and weak cooling limit its appeal. A design-led, economy 3-star near Zurich’s main station, scored for what it is.

This is a design-led, economy 3-star—not an MGallery luxury hotel—and we'd consider it a good base for a short Zurich visit. The main station is roughly ten minutes away on foot, with the Old Town within walking distance. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise cleanliness, comfortable beds and breakfast; Accor reviewers echo those strengths. The included gym and sauna are useful extras for this class.

The compromises are mostly inside the rooms: limited luggage space, unconventional shower layouts with curtain separation, and recurring summer complaints about ineffective cooling. Staff receive plenty of praise, though recent feedback shows uneven friendliness and problem handling. Bahnhofquai tram-stop construction is also changing nearby routes through late 2026, so check directions before arrival. We'd skip it for a longer stay with lots of luggage, or if strong air-conditioning and bathroom privacy are priorities.

  • Best for: Short city breaks; Rail travelers; Solo travelers packing light

  • Watch out for: Compact rooms and limited shower privacy; Recurring complaints about summer cooling; Bahnhofquai construction and tram diversions through late 2026

  • Location: Roughly ten minutes’ walk from Zurich HB, with easy access to the river and Old Town.

  • Rooms: Modern geometric decor and comfortable beds; luggage space and bathroom layouts divide opinion.

  • Cleanliness: Generally well rated across major sites, with some recent housekeeping lapses.

  • Service: Often helpful, but friendliness and handling of problems are inconsistent.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, restaurant and bar, plus an included fitness room and sauna.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and pets cost extra; breakfast depends on the booking, and city tax applies.
