#9 of 9 hotels in Hauptbahnhof & Central by Axel's take. Hauptbahnhof & Central is #3 of 9 places to stay in Zurich. The best hotels in Hauptbahnhof & Central, ranked · Where to stay in Zurich

Axel's take: 7.3/10

A practical station stop with good breakfast, but tired rooms and summer heat. A simple 3-star hotel near Zürich’s main station, scored for what it is.

Hotel Montana Zürich is a simple 3-star whose strongest selling point is convenience: the main station is a short walk away, with trams, shops and restaurants close by. It’s a good pick for a brief city break or rail stopover rather than a hotel-centered holiday. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the breakfast and friendly staff, and many find the rooms clean and comfortable.

The compromise is room quality. Reviews across sites describe dated furnishings and uneven bathroom upkeep, although complaints sit alongside plenty of satisfied stays. More consistently, guests report no air-conditioning and uncomfortable heat; opening windows can bring nighttime noise. We’d request a courtyard-facing room and check whether breakfast is included. Skip it if you need reliable summer cooling, polished interiors or dependable quiet.

  • Best for: Rail travelers on short stays; Budget-conscious city explorers; Travelers who prioritize breakfast

  • Watch out for: No air-conditioning; rooms can get hot; Nighttime noise with windows open; Dated rooms and uneven bathroom upkeep

  • Location: A short walk from Zürich HB, with easy tram access and the old town within walking distance.

  • Rooms: Simple, sometimes compact rooms; larger Deluxe options exist, but guests frequently mention dated interiors.

  • Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, though bathroom cleaning and maintenance receive recurring criticism.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength; the hotel also offers digital check-in.

  • Amenities: Breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi, lift and free luggage storage; limited underground parking.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra, city tax applies, and breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.
