Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong station-side choice, with spotless rooms and a few compact-hotel compromises. a renovated 3-star city hotel beside Zurich’s main station, scored for what it is.

Fred is a renovated 3-star beside Zurich’s main station, and a strong pick for rail travelers who want comfort without fuss. The hotel says all rooms were refurbished in 2023 and have air-conditioning. Recent Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and comfortable beds; breakfast also earns plenty of compliments. Free round-the-clock coffee and luggage storage make short stays especially practical.

The main compromise is space: smaller rooms suit a short stop better than an extended stay with bulky luggage. Mobile check-in and phone-based room keys divide opinion, although the hotel says traditional keycards are available on request. Some guests mention noise between rooms, despite many finding their rooms quiet. We’d choose it for easy arrivals and city exploring, but skip it if generous space and a traditional check-in matter most.

  • Best for: rail travelers and short stopovers; solo city breaks; sightseers taking day trips

  • Watch out for: compact rooms in smaller categories; mobile-first check-in and room access; occasional noise between rooms

  • Location: Steps from the main station and excursion buses, with the Old Town within walking distance.

  • Rooms: Renovated in 2023 with air-conditioning; comfortable but room sizes vary considerably.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently strong feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor guest reviews.

  • Service: Helpful staff are a recurring highlight; the hotel advertises round-the-clock on-site hosts.

  • Amenities: Breakfast buffet, free 24-hour coffee, Wi-Fi and complimentary luggage storage.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast is not included in every booking; parking is in a nearby public garage rather than on-site.
