#5 of 5 hotels in Downtown & the Exchange District by Axel's take. Downtown & the Exchange District is #1 of 8 places to stay in Winnipeg. The best hotels in Downtown & the Exchange District, ranked · Where to stay in Winnipeg

Axel's take: 7.3/10

A practical downtown base with helpful staff, but some uneven edges. a renovated 3-star downtown chain hotel, scored for what it is.

This 3-star downtown Holiday Inn is a good, practical pick for University of Winnipeg visits and events at Canada Life Centre. IHG now advertises fully renovated rooms, a refreshed gym and indoor pool, plus the new Commons Social Kitchen + Bar. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and friendly staff, and a September 2026 Tripadvisor review describes comfortable, well-maintained accommodation. We'd choose it for convenience rather than a special-occasion stay.

The trade-offs are paid parking, breakfast that isn't automatically included, and surroundings that some guests find uncomfortable after dark. Construction features in older reviews and one May 2026 stay, although IHG now presents the renovation as complete. A recent guest also reported unstable Wi-Fi. We'd skip it if a polished neighborhood or consistently dependable facilities matter more than downtown access.

  • Best for: University of Winnipeg visitors; Jets games and downtown events; Practical business stays

  • Watch out for: Parking and breakfast can cost extra; Some guests dislike the surrounding area after dark; Recent report of unreliable Wi-Fi

  • Location: Convenient for the university, art gallery and arena; guest opinions on the immediate surroundings are mixed.

  • Rooms: IHG says guestrooms are fully renovated; recent feedback includes comfortable beds and well-maintained rooms.

  • Cleanliness: Recent Expedia feedback generally favors clean rooms, despite occasional complaints elsewhere.

  • Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength across Expedia, Tripadvisor and Trip.com.

  • Amenities: Indoor pool, refreshed gym, free Wi-Fi and Commons Social Kitchen + Bar; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking and pets carry charges; confirm elevator availability if essential, given a May 2026 construction report.
