Questions families ask
Should we book two queens or two doubles?
Two queens give each sharing pair more sleeping width. Argonaut, LUMA, Castle Inn and the Ritz-Carlton have verified two-queen categories for four. Cow Hollow Inn, Galleria Park and Holiday Inn Golden Gateway use doubles in the rooms described here. Check the exact category: at Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco, the two-double Deluxe-View room allows only three guests.
How much room will four people actually have?
The difference is substantial: Castle Inn’s two-queen room is listed at 200 square feet, LUMA at 271, and Argonaut around 300. The Ritz-Carlton offers 400 square feet, while Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco offers 460. For a separate living area, kitchen and two bathrooms, Fairmont’s two-bedroom residence provides 1,194 square feet within one accommodation.
Can we add a crib or rollaway to a room for four?
Do not assume an extra bed is allowed just because the hotel offers them elsewhere. Castle Inn has no cribs, and Galleria Park’s two-double room has no rollaways. Argonaut and Holiday Inn Golden Gateway list free cribs, subject to confirmation. Ask whether the exact room permits your proposed setup and whether an infant counts toward its occupancy limit.
Does a room for four cost much more than a room for two?
It varies considerably. Some four-person categories carry little or no premium over the hotel’s cheapest room for two, while others require a noticeable step up. That does not make every low-premium option inexpensive: Fairmont’s residence remains a luxury choice. Also check mandatory amenity or destination fees, parking charges and whether breakfast is included.
Which neighborhoods work best for a family sharing one room?
Fisherman’s Wharf suits waterfront sightseeing, with Argonaut near Ghirardelli Square and the cable-car turnaround. The Financial District offers downtown walks and Montgomery BART near Galleria Park. Marina and Cow Hollow provide practical motel options, restaurants and parking. Mission Bay suits stadium visits and transit at LUMA; Nob Hill offers cable cars but involves steep walks.
