Downtown & Riverside
riverfront walks · historic houses · independent restaurants · arts and performances
6.2/10
Choose Riverside for neighborhood life, Downtown for events and river views.
It leads for urban sightseeing and cultural character, with solid hotels, but uneven street life and weaker value mean choosing your exact district matters.

The Northbank suits riverfront walks, performances and Downtown appointments; Riverside trades office blocks for historic houses, independent restaurants and Five Points' LGBTQ-friendly businesses. The Cummer Museum and Saturday Riverside Arts Market give Riverside a clear daytime focus. Choose by your plans rather than treating the two as interchangeable.
Don't expect continuous street life between them: locals report quiet stretches outside event times. Main Street Bridge pedestrian detours complicate crossings through January 2027. EverBank Stadium renovations also affect visits: Jaguars games remain here in 2026 but move to Orlando in 2027. Stay for museums, performances or football; skip it for a beach-led trip.

- Walk within individual districts; Route 16 links Riverside and Downtown. From JAX, take Route 1 to JRTC or a taxi/car; the Downtown Skyway pauses November 2, 2026.
- After dark
- Five Points and the Elbow have late bars; locals describe other Downtown stretches as quiet outside business and event hours.
