Where to stay in Baltimore for LGBTQ+ trips: Mount Vernon

Updated October 16, 2026 · Ranked by Axel from research, its own hotel reviews and recent rates · How we rank

Mount Vernon is our first choice for LGBTQ+ travelers because its LGBTQ history and current queer-friendly establishments sit alongside museums, cocktail bars and useful transit. Harbor East & Little Italy is the runner-up for stronger hotels and a comfortable waterfront base, rather than for the same concentration of neighborhood history.

Around Charles Street and Mount Vernon Place, Baltimore trades waterfront development for grand townhouses, the Washington Monument, the Walters Art Museum and the Peabody Library. Museums, performance venues and neighborhood restaurants make this a satisfying place to return to, not simply somewhere to sleep. It is our strongest choice for architecture and culture.

Fell's Point delivers the Baltimore many visitors hope to find: Belgian-block streets, old waterfront buildings, independent restaurants and pubs around Thames Street and Broadway. Farther east, Canton shifts toward rowhouse living, waterfront park space and the restaurants around O'Donnell Square. They share a waterfront outlook, but Canton means longer trips to downtown sightseeing.

West Nursery Road and Elkridge Landing Road form an airport hotel-and-office district in Linthicum, not a Baltimore neighborhood break. The payoff is practical: an easier early departure, somewhere to sleep after a late arrival, or a base for meetings around the airport. Expect meals on site and airport shuttles rather than an evening exploring local streets.
