For everyday family convenience, choose Home2 Suites East Side in East Austin: two queens, a kitchenette and breakfast. La Quinta near The Domain is the lowest-cost option, but has narrower double beds. Colton House on South Congress offers the most space at 550 square feet. JW Marriott in Downtown Austin puts sightseeing within walking distance; Holiday Inn Express Austin Airport East suits flight nights rather than a car-free city stay.

Questions families ask
Should we book two queens or two doubles?
Two queens give each pair more width, which matters when children share with an adult or each other. Home2 Suites East Side, Holiday Inn Express Airport East and JW Marriott have verified queens. Colton House has double XL beds: longer does not mean wider. SpringHill Suites South and La Quinta near The Domain also use narrower doubles.
Does a studio or suite give children a separate bedroom?
Not in these room types. Colton House's 550-square-foot studio has sitting and dining space but remains open-plan. Quality Suites has a partial divider rather than a separate bedroom. Home2 Suites East Side adds a kitchenette and sofa bed, not a closed children's room. Choose extra floor space for comfort, not for a guaranteed separate bedtime area.
Can we add a crib or rollaway instead of sharing beds?
Do not assume either will fit or be permitted. Holiday Inn Express Airport East offers free cribs on request but no rollaways. AT&T offers complimentary cribs and rollaways subject to availability, though rollaway permission in the double-queen room needs confirmation. JW Marriott's room-specific policy prohibits both. Request equipment before arrival and confirm occupancy rules.
How much more does a room for four usually cost?
There is no consistent family surcharge. Comparisons range from slightly less than the cheapest room for two to around a third more, depending on the hotel and night. Colton House, AT&T and JW Marriott show relatively small differences. Included breakfast and kitchen facilities can improve overall value; parking, destination fees and other mandatory charges can reduce it.
Which Austin neighborhood works best for a family sharing one room?
Downtown suits walking to central sights; JW Marriott is convenient for Congress Avenue and Lady Bird Lake. East Austin offers restaurants plus practical breakfast-and-kitchenette options. Mueller suits Thinkery and park visits. South Congress works for shopping and dining, though Colton House is farther south. Airport and highway hotels generally mean driving or rideshares; The Domain is separate from downtown.
