Decatur is a separate small city with a downtown that works well on foot. Around the square, Ponce de Leon Avenue and Church Street, you get independent shops, destination restaurants, beer bars and live music at Eddie's Attic. This is a particularly good choice when relaxed evenings matter as much as ticking off attractions.

- Getting around
- Walk downtown from Decatur's Blue Line station at the square; from ATL take Red/Gold to Five Points, then Blue eastbound, also changing at Five Points for Midtown.
- After dark
- Think dinner, beer bars and listening-room shows rather than clubbing; locals describe a noticeably calmer pace than Midtown.
