A strong choice for classic Washington luxury, with refreshed rooms and an outstanding sightseeing location. a historic five-star luxury hotel near the White House, scored for what it is.

The Willard is a historic five-star luxury hotel that makes sense if you want Washington history without sacrificing comfort. Its location near the White House and National Mall is a major draw, but the rooms hold up too: restored in 2025, they retain a traditional look rather than chasing minimalist fashion. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests broadly agree on comfortable rooms, strong cleanliness and helpful staff. We'd shortlist it for a sightseeing trip with a sense of occasion.

The main reservations are practical: a daily amenity fee, paid valet parking and no swimming pool. Service earns substantial praise, although occasional check-in and dining missteps mean perfection isn't guaranteed. The Round Robin Bar reopened on September 11, 2026, after restoration, so older closure notices are outdated. Skip it if you prefer contemporary styling or need pool time between museums.
