Axel's take

a mid-range downtown business hotel undergoing a major renovation and rebrand

6.4/10

Fresh rooms and a useful location, but renovation disruption still warrants caution.

The Beacon is a mid-range downtown business hotel, now marketed as The Beacon at Embassy Row, Tapestry by Hilton. Its strongest asset is the walkable location between Dupont and Logan circles, with restaurants and Metro nearby. Recent Expedia guests frequently praise clean, spacious renovated rooms and helpful staff. It could suit travelers spending most of their time exploring DC, but we'd book cautiously rather than expect a polished four-star experience.

Major renovation remained a recurring complaint in September 2026: guests described construction around the entrance, disrupted check-in and unavailable dining. Tripadvisor reviews also report repeated hot-water and air-conditioning problems. Hilton advertises its new identity, but the available feedback does not establish that every disruption has ended. Confirm lobby, elevator and dining access before booking, and check compulsory fees. We'd skip it for quiet working days or a reliably full-service stay.

Best for

  • Sightseers prioritizing a central location
  • Travelers comfortable with renovation trade-offs

Watch out for

  • Recent construction and disrupted public spaces
  • Recurring hot-water and air-conditioning complaints
  • Facilities fees and paid valet parking
Location
Walkable downtown base between Dupont and Logan circles, convenient for restaurants and Metro.
Rooms
Renovated rooms draw praise for space and appearance, but temperature control and hot water remain concerns.
Cleanliness
Recent guests commonly describe renovated rooms as clean; cleanliness is stronger than maintenance consistency.
Service
Individual front-desk staff earn frequent praise, though problem handling and communication are uneven.
Amenities
Hilton lists Wi-Fi, a fitness center and paid buffet breakfast; confirm dining and facility access after recent closures.
Fees and surprises
The legacy official site lists a mandatory nightly facilities fee and incidental hold; confirm current terms, plus valet and pet charges.
