A strong Georgetown base if you can trade full service for location. a small, self-service 3-star inn on Georgetown’s C&O Canal, scored for what it is.

The Georgetown House is a small, self-service 3-star inn, not a conventional full-service hotel. We’d pick it for a Georgetown weekend: restaurants, shops and the waterfront are close, and Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise cleanliness and comfortable beds. The historic building adds character, while the shared kitchen is useful for keeping snacks and drinks. It delivers best for independent travelers who prioritize the neighborhood over hotel facilities.

The compromises are real. Rooms vary considerably in size, and recent reviews across several sites mention thin walls, outside noise and occasional frustrating check-in problems. Staff are onsite only during daytime hours, and housekeeping is not daily. Most rooms involve stairs, sometimes within the room itself; the hotel explicitly says it is not wheelchair accessible. Skip it if you need dependable quiet, step-free access or round-the-clock reception.

• Best for: independent solo travelers; couples exploring Georgetown; short shopping and dining breaks

• Watch out for: thin walls and nightlife noise; self-check-in with limited onsite staffing; small rooms and stair-heavy layouts

• Location: Excellent for Georgetown dining, shopping and the waterfront; less convenient for immediate Metro access.

• Rooms: Individually configured rooms with private bathrooms; check the specific room’s size and stair layout.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent guest feedback, despite the absence of daily housekeeping.

• Service: Daytime onsite staff; automated entry works well for many, but access problems recur in reviews.

• Amenities: Shared lower-level kitchen; no onsite restaurant, room service or spa.

• Fees and surprises: No dedicated parking; a credit card is required for the deposit, and the property is not wheelchair accessible.
