Axel's take: 7.9/10

Good for downtown exploring and drinks, less convincing for space or quiet. a social, limited-service 3-star downtown hotel with micro-rooms, scored for what it is.

Moxy is a social, limited-service 3-star downtown hotel: compact bedrooms upstairs, a bar-centered lobby downstairs, and Lucha Rosa on the rooftop. It's a good pick for short stays when location and atmosphere matter more than spreading out. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests frequently praise the friendly staff, clean rooms and convenient setting near the convention center, restaurants and Metro. The communal spaces give it more personality than a conventional business hotel.

The compromises are substantial, though. Guests repeatedly describe tight rooms with limited storage, while frosted-glass bathrooms make sharing less private. Tripadvisor reviews also flag disruptive rooftop music, particularly near the upper floors. Check the bed configuration carefully: some two-bed rooms have bunks. We'd choose it for solo sightseeing or a sociable weekend, but skip it for light sleepers, lengthy stays or anyone needing a roomy workspace.

• Best for: solo travelers packing light; short downtown sightseeing stays; travelers who enjoy a lively bar scene

• Watch out for: very small rooms and limited storage; rooftop music affecting some rooms; bunk-bed layouts and limited bathroom privacy

• Location: Walkable to the convention center, CityCenterDC and several Metro stations.

• Rooms: Compact, loft-style rooms; check bed layouts and bathroom privacy before booking.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest feedback, despite occasional housekeeping and maintenance complaints.

• Service: Friendly staff earn frequent praise; problem handling receives more mixed feedback.

• Amenities: Lobby games, rooftop dining, free Wi-Fi and a small fitness center emphasize a social stay.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast and valet parking cost extra; confirm pet charges directly because published policies differ.
