Axel's take: 8.0/10

A clean, convenient Capitol Hill base, but light sleepers should think twice. a modern, select-service 4-star between Capitol Hill and Navy Yard, scored for what it is.

This modern, select-service 4-star is a strong pick for Capitol Hill business or a Nationals weekend, rather than a full-service luxury stay. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and friendly staff; Tripadvisor feedback also supports cleanliness as a strength. You can walk to the Capitol, Nationals Park and two Metro stations, while Smoke & Mirrors adds rooftop drinks with Capitol views.

The main compromise is noise: highway and railway exposure draws complaints on Tripadvisor and Trip.com, and recent Expedia guests also mention hallway sound. Experiences vary, so request a quieter room rather than prioritizing the view. Breakfast costs extra, and valet parking is expensive. We'd choose it for a short, car-free visit; we'd skip it if undisturbed sleep is your first priority.

• Best for: Capitol Hill business trips; Nationals weekends; Car-free city breaks

• Watch out for: Traffic, train and hallway noise; Expensive valet parking; Breakfast costs extra

• Location: Walkable to the Capitol and Nationals Park, with Navy Yard and Capitol South Metro nearby.

• Rooms: Modern, uncluttered rooms with mini-fridges and workspaces; sound insulation is the main concern.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Expedia reviews and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Recent guests frequently praise friendly, helpful front-desk staff.

• Amenities: Smoke & Mirrors rooftop bar, AC Lounge, breakfast restaurant, gym and complimentary Wi-Fi.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast and valet cost extra; Marriott's parking details are inconsistent, so confirm overnight terms.
