Axel's take: 8.1/10

A good-value sightseeing base with helpful staff, easy transport and dated rooms. a no-frills 3-star near Westbahnhof, scored for what it is.

ibis Wien Mariahilf is a no-frills 3-star near Westbahnhof, and we'd pick it for a practical Vienna city break. Recent Accor, Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the transport links, helpful staff and generally clean, comfortable rooms. Mariahilfer Straße shopping is close, with trams and the underground making sightseeing straightforward. The redesigned lobby and Günter restaurant-bar add character beyond the usual budget-chain basics.

The bedrooms haven't caught up with the public spaces: dated furnishings and limited extras are recurring themes, including missing kettles and fridges. Some recent guests also report weak air conditioning. Breakfast usually earns praise, but check whether it's included; parking costs extra. Ask reception about housekeeping arrangements, as several Tripadvisor guests say cleaning must be requested. We'd skip it for stylish rooms or an old-town doorstep location.

  • Best for: value-minded city-break travelers; travelers using Westbahnhof; shoppers exploring Mariahilfer Straße

  • Watch out for: dated rooms without many extras; some reports of weak air conditioning; confirm housekeeping requests at check-in

  • Location: Convenient for Westbahnhof, shopping and public transport rather than immediate old-town sightseeing.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable but dated; guests repeatedly miss kettles and fridges.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly positive across sources, though some guests report missed requested cleaning.

  • Service: Helpful reception staff are a consistent strength across guest-review sites.

  • Amenities: Redesigned lobby, Günter restaurant-bar, breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi and an on-site garage.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast may be extra depending on the booking; garage parking and pets carry additional charges.
