Axel's take: 8.8/10

A dependable downtown base with spacious rooms, helpful staff and excellent transit access. a full-service upscale downtown business hotel, scored for what it is.

Hyatt Regency Vancouver is a full-service upscale business hotel that gets the important things right: clean, spacious rooms, helpful staff and a downtown location that makes a car unnecessary. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise housekeeping and service, while Burrard SkyTrain and the walk to Canada Place make it especially practical for sightseeing or a pre-cruise stay. The heated outdoor pool, hot tub and barrel sauna are worthwhile extras.

The trade-offs are more practical than serious: some guests find the room decor dated, and street noise or sound from adjoining rooms can interrupt sleep. Breakfast and parking cost extra, and two-bed rooms have doubles rather than queens. It's a strong pick for convenience and consistent comfort; we'd skip it if boutique character or near-silence matters most.

• Best for: car-free city breaks; pre-cruise stays; business travelers

• Watch out for: street and adjoining-room noise; breakfast and parking cost extra; double beds rather than queens

• Location: Central downtown, beside Burrard SkyTrain and about a 10-minute walk from Canada Place.

• Rooms: Spacious and comfortable overall; some decor feels dated, and soundproofing draws complaints.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength, with recent guests repeatedly praising rooms and housekeeping.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn strong praise across Expedia, Tripadvisor and Trip.com.

• Amenities: Heated outdoor pool, hot tub, barrel sauna, gym, spa and on-site dining.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast is not automatically included; parking is paid, with a six-foot garage clearance.
