Axel's take: 8.9/10
A strong riverside escape, provided you accept the distance and nearby tram works. a five-star riverside villa hotel outside Florence’s historic centre, scored for what it is.
Ville sull’Arno is a five-star villa hotel for travelers who want Florence sightseeing balanced with time to unwind. We’d pick it for its characterful rooms, garden pool and small spa rather than doorstep access to the monuments. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spotless housekeeping, comfortable beds, generous breakfasts and genuinely helpful staff. The complimentary scheduled shuttle and bicycles make the outlying location easier.
The trade-off is convenience: allow roughly 30–40 minutes to walk into the historic centre, and check shuttle times before planning late dinners. Ongoing tram-line construction around the area detracts from the setting and can complicate journeys. Spa access requires reservations, with one included hour daily; the outdoor pool normally operates May–September. We’d skip it for a short, sightseeing-heavy visit, but it’s a strong choice for couples wanting a slower-paced stay.
-
Best for: couples combining sightseeing and spa time; longer stays with afternoons by the pool; travelers happy using bikes or a shuttle
-
Watch out for: ongoing nearby tram-line construction; long walk into the historic centre; reserved spa slots and seasonal outdoor pool
-
Location: On the Arno outside the historic core; guests commonly report a 30–40-minute walk into town.
-
Rooms: Individually styled rooms across three buildings; entry-level rooms are relatively compact, and river views depend on category.
-
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and recent Expedia feedback.
-
Service: Warm, helpful staff and concierge support earn repeated praise; occasional poolside-service shortcomings appear.
-
Amenities: Restaurant, small gym, seasonal outdoor pool and indoor spa; one daily spa hour included by reservation.
-
Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra, breakfast inclusion depends on the booking, and nearby tram works remain a consideration.
