Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong downtown luxury pick, with excellent cleanliness but extras and conference bustle. a modern luxury convention hotel in downtown Tampa, scored for what it is.

JW Marriott Tampa Water Street is a modern luxury convention hotel that gets the important things right: clean, comfortable rooms, helpful staff and a walkable downtown location near the Riverwalk and arena. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise housekeeping, views and welcoming service; Tripadvisor is positive overall, though less consistent on service and value. We'd choose it for a conference or a downtown weekend with pool time, rather than an intimate boutique escape.

The sixth-floor pools, spa and 27th-floor Beacon bar give you reasons to linger, but the destination fee and paid valet weaken the value. Conference groups can make shared spaces busy, and some Tripadvisor guests describe service lapses. August and September 2026 guests also reported lobby-bar renovation work; confirm completion before booking. We'd skip it if you want guaranteed quiet or dislike added charges.

• Best for: convention travelers; couples exploring downtown; arena-event weekends

• Watch out for: destination fee and paid valet; conference crowds in shared spaces; confirm lobby-bar renovation completion

• Location: Walkable to the Riverwalk, convention center, arena and Water Street restaurants.

• Rooms: Modern, comfortable rooms; recent guests particularly praise the views.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Expedia, Tripadvisor and Reddit feedback.

• Service: Usually warm and helpful, with some Tripadvisor reports of inconsistent handling.

• Amenities: Two sixth-floor pools, a spa, 24-hour gym and 27th-floor Beacon bar.

• Fees and surprises: Nightly destination fee, paid valet and extra-cost breakfast; lobby-bar work reported through September 2026.
