#6 of 6 hotels in Bondi & Eastern Suburbs by Axel's take. Bondi & Eastern Suburbs is #8 of 11 places to stay in Sydney. The best hotels in Bondi & Eastern Suburbs, ranked · Where to stay in Sydney

Axel's take: 7.7/10

A sociable Bondi base with helpful staff, compact rooms and unreliable quiet. a budget backpacker hostel near Bondi Beach, now called Little Drifter Bondi, scored for what it is.

The former Village Bondi Beach now operates as Little Drifter Bondi, a budget backpacker hostel about five minutes’ walk from the sand. Refurbished in 2024, it offers dorms, pods and private rooms alongside a communal kitchen, courtyard and co-working space. It’s a good pick for beach-focused travelers who want company: Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the location and helpful staff, and organized activities make meeting people easier.

The compromises are space and sleep. Recent Trip.com guests repeatedly describe cramped rooms, tiny bathrooms and noise carrying through walls, including in private rooms. Cleanliness earns plenty of praise elsewhere, but bathroom complaints mean consistency isn’t assured. There’s no elevator or on-site parking, and late arrivals need advance arrangements. We’d choose it for a sociable beach break, not a quiet couples’ escape or a roomy hotel stay.

  • Best for: solo backpackers seeking company; beach-focused budget travelers; travelers happy to self-cater

  • Watch out for: thin walls and nighttime noise; compact rooms and tiny bathrooms; stairs only; no elevator

  • Location: About 300 metres from Bondi Beach, with cafés and buses nearby; less convenient for city-focused sightseeing.

  • Rooms: Refurbished dorms, pods and private rooms; comfortable beds draw praise, but space and soundproofing are recurring weaknesses.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive on Booking.com and Expedia, with some recent bathroom-cleanliness complaints on Trip.com.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across Booking.com and Expedia.

  • Amenities: Shared kitchen, courtyard, lounge, co-working space, free Wi-Fi, activities and paid laundry.

  • Fees and surprises: No on-site parking; laundry costs extra; official reception hours are 8am–11pm, with late check-in arranged ahead.
